On vacation to Lofoten
Norway - July 2011

On vacation to Lofoten in our Caprice "camper".
This was a 2400 mile drive, almost the same distance as
New York - Los Angeles. The old Caprice did it without any problems.
However we often got questions about fuel consumption. Easy to understand
as we have to pay about $11 a gallon over here. Fully loaded we where packing 2,8 tons.
Combining this with a V8 engine and auto transmission may sound scary, but Caprice is
tuned to deliver good milage. In the hilly landscapes we measured consumption to 1,3 liters
every10 kilometers. On "highway", Trondheim to Oslo wich is a six hour drive we measured
1,14 liters every 10 kilometers. Not bad for a carbureted V8 engine. Also had to add a few liters of
engine oil. Caprice is an old (1988) unrestored car, so this was expected. Don't know the milage on it.

Lofoten is a very beautiful place.
We drove highway 17, the coastal route.
This includes several scenic ferry crossings.
